d6a2afd33b Ichiro is a highly imaginative, but lonely, boy growing up in urban Tokyo. Every day he comes home to the empty apartment he shares with his railroad worker father and his restaurant hostess mother. His only friends are a toy maker name Shinpei Inami and a little girl named Sachicko. The only other kids that are around is a gang of kids led by a bully named Gabara. To escape his loneliness, Ichiro imagines that he is on Monster Island where he befriends Minya, the son of Godzilla. It is through his daydreams that he watches Godzilla and Minya fight other monsters, including one also named Gabara who is justbad a bullythe one that is tormenting Ichiro. It is through these daydreams that he learns that it is okay to fight back and face his fears. These lessons also help him to outwit a couple of bumbling bank robberswellfinally have the guts to stand up to Gabara and his gang. A bullied schoolboy dreams of traveling to Monster Island, where he befriends Godzilla&#39;s son, who is also having bully troubles. &quot;Godzilla&#39;s Revenge&quot; has long had the undeserved distinction of being the &quot;worst Godzilla film.&quot; Not only it is NOT the worst (that title probably belongs to &quot;Godzilla vs. Megalon&quot;) but &quot;Godzilla&#39;s Revenge&quot; is actually quite good at being what is really is, an actual &quot;kiddie&quot; Godzilla film.<br/><br/>Many Godzilla fans have always hated the fact that Godzilla went &quot;kiddie&quot; with this movie. But hey, it&#39;s only one film, and it isn&#39;t bad at that. It&#39;s about a little kid who gets picked on by bullies, and his mom and dad always seem to be working. Alone most of the time, the way he finds peace away from the bullies and loneliness is dreaming about his favorite monsters, and for himself to go to Monster Island to hang out with Godzilla&#39;s son, Minya. <br/><br/>When he is &quot;at&quot; Monster Island, he learns to defend himself by watching little Minya fight Gabara, who always picks on Minya. The child then defends himself against some bank robbers, and later the bullies themselves.<br/><br/>It&#39;s actually a sweet story that is very well done. There are actually a lot of good shots of outdoors Tokyo, where the working class is going about their work day. The theme music is fun and the opening titles sequence is pretty cool. Some stock footage of other Toho monsters is thrown in for good measure. <br/><br/>And this film is also an odd way to end the classic &quot;60&#39;s era&quot; of amazing Godzilla films, but maybe it is fitting that the classic 60&#39;s era ended with a sweet Godzilla film about an innocent child, when the decade itself had turned nasty and ugly, having since lost its own innocence.<br/><br/>All in all, this film may definitely not be to everyone&#39;s taste and that is perfectly understandable, but it definitely is not a bad film. The way to see this properly is by the old 1998 Simitar DVD Godzilla box-set release, which has a mint-quality widescreen English version. Godzilla&#39;s Revenge was totally embarrassing and the shortest Godzilla movie I ever saw. Gabara was an annoying monster that didn&#39;t do much accept fight Godzilla&#39;s son like a bully. He really looked like a dragon from a parade and the pointy things on his head almost looked like a crown on top of his orange human like hair. I&#39;m not sure what Honda was thinking when he made this film. It&#39;s unlike Godzilla to force his son to fight Gabara when he was so small. The soundtrack in this movie didn&#39;t have the suspense like the newer Godzilla movies do. I don&#39;t recommend this for a Godzilla film collector. That being said, I did watch this several times in the hope that it would get better, but unfortunately it did not.
